Thanks for stopping by!

My name is Anita Marie Martin, Director and Founder of Brisbane’s only Performance, Production and Vocal Rehabilitation HOuse: Make Loud Noise.

At Make Loud Noise we specialise in elite, extended, and extreme voice function. We’re science-based, human-centred, artist-first.

LATE LAST YEAR I SURVIVED life-threatening sepsis AND JUST AS I WAS CLEARED TO RETURN TO WORK THIS year On March 10, after an 8-year residency, MY FORMER LANDLORD gave Make Loud Noise just 21 days to vacate DUE TO CHANGE OF OPERATIONS. Since then, we’ve been searching high and low for our new home (limping through online with occasional in-person sessions at Via Studios: thanks FOr Having us !)

we thought we found HOME!
83 Doggett Street Newstead: a WORLD CLASS purpose-built Sound Studio known locally as the old QUT Gasworks Studio. it was being run by Urban Jungle Studios and I was right at the finish line, ready to sign a lease with them and Then Urban Jungle Studios suddenly went bust without warning.

At the same time Brisbane-based musicians and producers Ben, Sam, and Jon, who had been working out of 83 Doggett Street subleasing showed up to work only to find they had been locked out! the anchor tenant had defaulted on their lease taking their bonds with it.

Ultimately, we found each other. Together, we’re making an urgent bid to take over the head lease at 83 Doggett Street. We are fighting to rescue this space from becoming another generic Newstead gym, which is exactly who is breathing down our necks, and to protect a vital piece of Brisbane music history that was originally acoustically engineered by music legend Julian Knowles. Locally, This Place is second to none!

The space is 3 studios:

This is part of Studio A: Spanning around 140m2 between the vocal booth, the live room (pictured), and the Control room (currently occupied by Ben and Jon). This flagship space is the only large-scale, acoustically engineered, sound proofed, and treated Live tracking Professional recording studio currently available to the public in the Inner City with these high ceilings. While the original Neve console is gone (for now), these rooms possess a richness and presence that comes pretty close to Abbey Road’s Studio Two.

Studio B: Over 60m2 split into Three premium spaces: a warm CONTROL room currently occupied by SAM, a fully decoupled live room engineered with a near-zero noise floor, and a writers room!

Studio C: An 80m2-plus layout comprising a dedicated Control room, modest live room all connected to INNER BRISBANE CITY’S Last dedicated (with actual tie-lines) echo chamber!!! It strikes the perfect balance between being delightfully roomy and providing a tight, pristine, dry acoustic environment and giving lux old school vibes you simply cannot beat. (Make Loud Noise SEEKS to secure Studio C).

There’s three main phases in our Studio Eighty Three plan:

1: Secure the head lease (first Target)
2: Achieve full operational status and fundraise for specialized restoration
3: Long-term premium restoration and equipment upgrades

The past few years have not been kind to this beauty of a space. But given the time and the right team, this space will return better than her shiniest former self!

The Building owners got burned and have set an understandable but firm timeline for us to secure the remaining balance of our bond. Their final deadline is Tuesday, 30th June. As I’ve come into this process later than the others I need to secure My portion of the funds by this Monday, 29th June, to ensure bank clearing. I need your help to bridge the remaining gap to save the building.

How Can you Help Right Now?

1. Corporate Investment:
If you’re looking to come on board as a strategic investor please be in direct contact with Ben, Sam, or Jon.

2. Another Brick in the Wall… “Buy” a Brick:
Leave your mark on Brisbane music history. You can choose to purchase a virtual brick. Buying a brick ensures your name is featured on the Speakeasy entrance wall of Studio Eighty Three down the laneway once refurbishment is complete. Completely and entirely refundable if the lease does not proceed. Promotion ends at 11:59pm AEST on the 29th June 2026.

3. Share this project with someone you know who loves live music who might like to keep a space like this alive!

I get everyone’s feeling the pinch of a world in crisis, but there’s never a good time to stand up for live music. if you tracked or studied with me in the past or spent late nights in these exact rooms during your uni days, I’m asking: please give what you can so the building can be preserved, and protected for now with a view to the future.

Thank you for backing Live music and Human-centred creative spaces (and me) in this AI shifting world that is relentlessly trying to take the humanness out of the science, art and strength of humanities!
