VSP was first introduced by Anita Marie Martin at the 8th International Congress of Voice Teachers (2013), the Voice Function Specialist is a practitioner-scholar who:

• Equips touring artists and emerging professionals with sustainable voice function, creative resilience, and industry strategy.

• Works at the intersection of science, art, and praxis.

• Focuses on voice function across speech, singing, and extended technique — including extreme vocals.

• Positions all vocal sounds, modal and non-modal, as meaningful and teachable practices.

• Supports endurance and rehabilitation through the science of voice function and audio production, helping artists re-discover capability and resilience despite trauma, imbalance, or sustained touring.

• Holds certification in Mental Health First Aid and Vocal Health First Aid to meet the needs of artists working at the edge of vocal and psychological possibility.

Note: “Voice Function Specialist” is not an accredited qualification. It is an interdisciplinary approach originated by Anita Marie Martin (2013) and remains an evolving practice.
